“Rosie the Riveters” was taken in June 2026 at the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Rosie the Riveter was an American symbol of strength and dedication, representing the 19 million women who contributed to the workforce during WWII. The Union Pacific 4012 “Big Boy” steam engine was built in 1941, the same year that the United States was drawn into the war with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The huge 4-8-8-4 steam engine is one of eight Big Boys that remain and has been at Steamtown since 1984. This photo was taken during a Pete Lerro photography workshop.
