“Horseshoe Curve” was taken in October 2023 near Altoona in Blair County, Pennsylvania. Horseshoe Curve was built in 1854 to reduce the steep grade of the rail line in the Allegheny Mountains. It took 4 years to build, cost $2.5 million (the equivalent of $87 million in today’s money), and is 2375 ft. long.
